Traveling with children for 5 nights to Berlin we decided to rent a 1 bedroom (+ 1 double sofa bed) apartment in Charlottenburg, West-Berlin. It feels very Ikea like (not negative, this is the kind of place in which you feel at home immediately) with some nice touches. It’s very bright and clean and has a fully equipped comfortable kitchen. It’s also a good base to explore Berlin for several days  (easy!) and the underground is nearby. There is a supermarket close by to buy your breakfast - or dinner necessities. This apartment is well recommended to escape the (splendid) hectic of Berlin.
